Charges were dropped Wednesday against a Washington County police officer, accused of assaulting two men while on duty, after the officer cooperated in a police corruption investigation. County Common Pleas Judge John DiSalle agreed with a request made by the county district attorney's office to drop charges against former Smith Township police officer Derek Dayoub. Mr. Dayoub was charged in 2009 with simple assault and official oppression after he was accused of assaulting two men in separate incidents in 2008. Since that time, the district attorney's office and Mr. Dayoub's lawyers have petitioned the court repeatedly to drop the charges due to Mr. Dayoub's cooperation with a county grand jury investigation. No arrests stemming from that investigation have been made yet.
