Illinois Governor Takes Bold Move Against Corruption

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports, in Governor to sign bill for oversight of East St. Louis area police standards (August 16, 2012) that Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is taking brave action to combat corruption and other concerning issues in needed police departments.
 St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan F. Kelly is quoted as saying, "Corruption and weak police standards in our most violent cities... are problems that must be fixed," adding, that "even one bad cop in an undisciplined environment is a real obstacle in the successful investigation and prosecution of crime."  Brendan Kelly has been working with U.S. Attorney Stephen Wigginton have joined forces to restore the public's trust during a time when one area police chief, Michael Baxton, was convicted in federal court for various crimes.
