OXFORD, MISS. — The former head of the Lafayette County Mississippi Metro Narcotics Unit has been arrested for "doctor shopping" for prescription pain medicine. The Oxford Eagle newspaper reported that Searn Lynch was fired in early November from the Oxford Mississippi Police Department. Court records show Lynch was arrested on November 19, 2012 on various charges alleging that he got prescriptions from at least 17 doctors. He was released on $5,000 bond on November 20, 2012- the same day he was fired from the Oxford Police Department. Lynch was hired in August of 1999, having returned as an investigator. He had previously served as a commander in the Lafayette County metro drug unit. Lynch allegedly obtained one hydrocodone prescription in 2005 and increased the amount of prescriptions over time to 15 for hydrocodone, and two for oxycodone this year.
